In 1983 Mike Walker was a graduate student at Clemson University. While there, he was an atheist attempting to disprove God’s existence when Jesus, with perfect patience (1 Tim. 4:16) drew Mike to the cross. Two years later, Mike moved from Clemson, SC to Chapel Hill, NC to help start a new student church on the campus of UNC. God had more plans there; Mike met a young woman named Cindy who, four years later, would become his wife.
Mike and Cindy visited Colonial in 1995 and began to participate in the children’s ministry, mostly so they could stay with their oldest son, Jonathan, who has cerebral palsy. Since then, two more wonderful sons have joined the Walker clan. Mike has continued his involvement with young people serving in Colonial Corners and Middle School Ministries; coaching Upward Basketball, leading a small group for high school boys and going on a mission trips.
