Alex Credle grew up in Ithaca, NY. His family moved to Poughkeepsie, NY when he was entering high school. It was there that he met his bride, Shelby. He graduated with a BS from Clemson University and an MBA from Georgia State University. They were transferred with his company to Cary for the first time in 1972, and have moved into Cary a total of five times—the last time was in fall 2005.
He and Shelby were married in 1946. They have two children, a son and daughter, and four wonderful grandchildren. He says his life has been full of retirements: first from Burroughs Wellcome, then from the mission field in Singapore, and, most recently, from the medical moderating field. Since his final retirement in 2007, he and Shelby have been volunteering wherever needed: at church, at the hospital, and at the prison.
Alex was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 12. His early faith has been deepened with continued study, including taking seminary courses. He continues to look for opportunities to grow and to share his faith.
He and Shelby began attending Colonial in December 2008. They sing in the choir and assist in the filing of orchestra music each week. They attend the Praiseworthy ABF, where Alex is part of the teaching rotation. He and Shelby also participate in the monthly outreach at Cary Rehabilitation Center. They both also teach a weekly Bible study at Polk Correctional Center in Butner, NC.
His favorite Bible verse is Habakkuk 3:17-18: “Though the fig tree should
not blossom.
And there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail, and
the fields
produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold, And there be
no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the
God of my salvation.”
